Track & Field Teams Set for OAC Championships

TIFFIN, Ohio—With six meets under their belts, the Heidelberg University men’s and women’s indoor track & field teams are set for the 2012 Ohio Athletic Conference Championships, hosted by Otterbein University at The Rike Center on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 24-25.

In its last meet, the Ohio State Tune-Up last Friday, Heidelberg had five Student Princes post marks in the top four. Juniors Wes Hendricks (Beavercreek) and Josh Lynch (Dayton/Meadowdale) highlighted men’s action with second-place showings in the 400-meter dash (49.80) and long jump (46-10.25), respectively. Sophomore Drew Avsec (Geneva) came in third in the 1,000-meter dash in 2:36.85, followed closely in fourth place by senior Jacob Hoffman (Shelby) in a time of 2:38.32.

Sophomore Sophie Goobic (Canton, N.Y./Hugh C. Williams) topped the women’s team with a third-place showing in the 1,000-meter run in a time of 3:15.08.

Following this weekend’s OAC championships, Heidelberg will compete in one more meet on Saturday, March 3 at a yet to be determined location before suiting up for the 2012 NCAA Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track & field Championships on Friday and Saturday, March 9-10 hosted by Grinnell College in Grinnell, Iowa.
