Volleyball Extends Winning Streak to Eight

The Heidelberg College volleyball team extended its winning streak to eight matches with a three-game sweep over host Defiance College tonight. The Berg took control early on with a 30-9 victory in game one and went on to win game two by a score of 30-16 and game three by a 30-27 margin. The victory improves Heidelberg’s overall record to 8-1.

Leading the attack was junior middle hitter Emily Hurlburt (St. Mary’s, Ohio / Memorial) with nine kills in just two games. Laurie Patrick (Bellevue, Ohio / Bellvue) and Kelsey Elliott (Ottawa, Ohio / Ottawa-Glandorf) backed Hurlburt with eight and seven kills, respectively. Morgan Magers (Green Springs, Ohio / Old Fort) controlled the offense, dishing out 38 assists, while Kristy Bollenbacher (Huron, Ohio / Huron) contributed three points on service aces.

Heidelberg put together a solid defensive performance by both its back row defenders and blockers. Tracy Sutter (Miamisburg, Ohio / Miamisburg) led the way with 10 digs and Brittany Donelan (North Olmstead, Ohio / North Olmstead) finished with nine digs. At the net, Hurlburt recorded three blocks.

The Berg opens its 2007 home slate and Ohio Athletic Conference schedule on Sept. 15 against Marietta College. Match is slated to begin at 1:00 p.m. Heidelberg will also host Bluffton College on Sept. 15 at 5:00 p.m.
