Heidelberg Extends Winning Streak to 10
The Heidelberg College volleyball team beat both Marietta College and Bluffton University, raising their record to 10-1. The Berg pushed passed Marietta by way of three games to one (30-21, 25-30, 30-17, 30-23), and then dropped Bluffton in three straight matches (30-16, 30-25, 30-21).
In the first match against Ohio Athletic Conference foe Marietta, seniors Whitney Magers (Green Springs, Ohio / Old Fort) and Laurie Patrick (Bellevue, Ohio / Bellevue), along with junior Emily Hurlburt (St. Mary's, Ohio / Memorial), led the way for the Berg with 11 kills each. Junior right-side hitter Audra Vucic (Lancaster, Ohio / Fisher Catholic) followed close behind with 10 kills on the day.
Meanwhile, sophomore setter Morgan Magers (Green Springs, Ohio / Old Fort) recorded 45 assists and senior libero Kendra Orwig (Castalia, Ohio / Margaretta) led the team with 17 digs. Senior Kristy Bollenbacher (Huron, Ohio / Huron) led the team offensively with three service aces.
In the second game against Bluffton, Patrick and Hurlburt again led the way in attacks for the Berg with seven and six kills each. Overall, the team recorded 31 kills out of 106 attempts, with Morgan Magers recording 23 of the assists.
Orwig, Bollenbacher, and Whitney Magers each recorded one service ace each to lead the way offensively for the Berg, while Patrick and Hurlburt also led the defensively with three blocks each.
The Berg returns to action away Tuesday Sept. 18 against another OAC rival Wilmington College at 7:00 p.m.
