Heidelberg Splits Tri-Match at Mount Union

The Heidelberg College volleyball team split a tri-match at Mount Union College today. Heidelberg opened the day dropping a 3-0 (30-23, 30-23, 30-16) Ohio Athletic Conference match to host Mount Union before topping Shawnee State 3-1 (30-23, 18-30, 30-28, 30-14).

Heidelberg concludes the regular season with an overall mark of 24-9. The setback to Mount Union dropped Heidelberg’s league record to 7-2 overall, which places the team in third place in the final standings, while Mount Union secured the second spot.

In the OAC loss to Mount Union, Heidelberg was led by Emily Hurlburt (St. Mary’s Ohio / Memorial) with 10 kills and a .346 attack percentage. Morgan Magers (Green Springs, Ohio / Old Fort) dished out 25 assists, while Kendra Orwig (Castalia, Ohio / Margaretta) led three with double-digit digs with 19. Brittany Donelan (North Olmsted, Ohio / North Olmsted) picked up 12 digs followed by Morgan Magers with 10.

The Berg earned the split on the day with a strong showing from its outside hitters. Audra Vucic (Lancaster, Ohio / Fisher Catholic) finished with 11 kills on 22 attempts and no errors to lead the way against Shawnee State. Whitney Magers (Green Springs, Ohio / Old Fort) had a team-high 15 kills. Morgan Magers finished with 37 assists, to go along with two service aces. Oriwg also finished with two service aces and 12 digs. Leading the back row in digs was Donelan with 15 followed by Orwig and Tracy Sutter (Miamisburg, Ohio / Miamisburg) with 12 apiece and Kristy Bollenbacher (Huron, Ohio / Huron) with 10. At the net, Vucic and Hurlburt picked up three and two blocks, respectively.

Heidelberg returns to action in the OAC Tournament on Tuesday, Oct. 30. The Berg is the No. 3 seed and will host a quarterfinal match. The winner of the eight-team tournament earns an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
