Magers Awarded OAC Player of the Week Honor

Whitney Magers (Green Springs, Ohio / Old Fort), a senior outside hitter for the Heidelberg College volleyball team, has been named the Player of the Week for the Ohio Athletic Conference. She is the second ’Berg hitter to receive the honor this season. Emily Hurlburt (St. Mary's, Ohio / Memorial), a junior and middle hitter for the Berg, got the award for the week of September 17.

Magers and the rest of the team recently faced off against Shawnee State at a tri-match with Mount Union in Alliance, Ohio. She recorded a team-high 15 kills against the Bears, totaling 19 for the day, along with 10 digs.

When the Berg faced off against cross-town rival Tiffin Unversity last Thursday, Magers helped the team defeat the Dragons 3-1 (30-28, 27-30, 30-12, 30-15). She racked up 13 kills and three service aces on the night.

Heidelberg currently holds a record of 7-2 in the OAC and 24-9 overall. The women, under the direction of head coach Jason Miller, return to action in the OAC Tournament on Tuesday, Oct. 30. The Berg is the No. 3 seed and will host a quarterfinal match. The winner of the eight-team tournament earns an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
