ONU Snaps the Berg's Streak
By a score of 3-1 the Heidelberg volleyball team’s 11-game overall winning streak and undefeated standing in the Ohio Athletic Conference came to end at the hands of the no. 10 Ohio Northern University Polar Bears. The Berg drops to 19-4 on the year, 4-1 in the OAC, while the Polar Bears currently stand at 16-4, 2-0 in conference play.
Heidelberg came out strong and took the first game 25-21, but could not keep the momentum up and fell 25-21, 26-24, 25-17 to close out the match.
OAC Player of the Week Audra Vucic (Lancaster, Ohio / Fisher Catholic) led the Berg with 13 kills, while Amanda Atchinson (Frankfort, Ohio / Frankfort Adena) and Jackie Reinhart (New Riegel, Ohio / New Riegel) smashed 12 apiece. Reinhart also posted her sixth double-double of the year by adding 14 digs to go along with her total kills and sliced four aces over the net.
Also providing an offensive and defensive boost was Emily Hurlburt (St. Mary’s, Ohio / Memorial) with 11 kills and five blocks. Morgan Magers (Green Springs, Ohio / Old Fort) dished out 48 assists for the Berg and Brittany Donelan (North Olmsted, Ohio / North Olmsted) racked up 29 digs to lead the team.
The Berg returns to its home court on Saturday, October 11, to face off against Wilmington College and Case Western Reserve University in a tri-match that is set to begin at 11 a.m. in Seiberling Gymnasium.
