Volleyball Highly Represented on All-OAC Team

The Ohio Athletic Conference released its 2008 all-league volleyball team in conjunction with the OAC Tournament today at Ohio Northern University in Ada, Ohio. Heidelberg College placed five players on the all-conference team and earned two player of the year accolades.

Freshman outside hitter Jackie Reinhart (New Riegel, Ohio / New Riegel) was named the Freshman of the Year and earned a spot on the honorable mention list, while sophomore libero Brittany Donelan (North Olmsted, Ohio / North Olmsted) was named the Libero of the Year and was placed on the second team.

Tabbed a first team all-league performer was senior middle hitter Emily Hurlburt (St. Mary’s, Ohio / Memorial) and junior setter Morgan Magers (Green Springs, Ohio / Old Fort). Senior outside hitter Audra Vucic (Lancaster, Ohio / Fisher Catholic) joined Reinhart on the honorable mention team.

In her first season at the Berg, Reinhart led the team with 59 service aces, while standing second with 535 digs and third with 262 kills. Her 59 service aces ranks fourth in the single-season record book, while her 0.48 service aces per set stand ninth.

Donelan emerged onto the scenes in the back row as a freshman and returned for her second season without a change in her step. She led the team with 782 digs, which is second on the single-season list, and equates out to 5.58 a set. In 2008 she became the 11th player to reach 1,000 digs and currently sits sixth all-time with 1,1180. Donelan also added 32 aces on the year.

Hurlburt put together a solid four-year campaign that has been capped with a spot on the first team, which is added to her second team selection from a season ago. In 2008 she led the team in kills (435), attack percentage (.371) and blocks (110). Her kills ranks fifth in a single year, while her .371 attack percentage is second. For her career Hurlburt became just the fourth player to eclipse 1,000 kills and has 1,157 to her credit, which is third on the list, while her 361 blocks is fourth.

Magers has been seeing triples since stepping onto the Heidelberg campus three years ago. She has amassed over 1,000 assists every season to own the top three spots in the record book and has 4,192 to her credit, which overtook the career record this season. On the year she has dished out 1,354, along with serving up 46 aces and digging 340 balls.

Vucic has provided a solid presence on the right side over the course of her career. In 2008 she recorded 227 kills, a .251 attack percentage and 55 blocks to earn her first all-conference award. For her career, Vucic racked up 860 kills, which stands fifth, and her 261 blocks is ninth.

Heidelberg boasts an overall record of 30-7, which marks a record for wins in a season. The Berg finished runner-up in the OAC Regular Season with an 8-1 record and went on to make an appearance in the OAC Tournament Championship match. Heidelberg still has an opportunity to continue playing in 2008. The team is looking to snag an at-large bid to the NCAA Championships. The selection announcements are made on Sunday evening, Nov. 9. In 2007 the Berg made its first NCAA trip via an at-large bid.
