Volleyball Extends Unbeaten OAC Mark to Seven

University Heights, Ohio – October 20, 2009 – The no. 17 Heidelberg University volleyball team extended its unbeaten mark in the Ohio Athletic Conference to seven following a sweep (25-15, 25-18, 25-17) victory over John Carroll University in University Heights, Ohio.
 
The win was the eighth in a row for Heidelberg as they improve to 22-4 on the year. John Carroll falls to 10-15, 2-4 in the OAC.
 
The freshman duo of Marian Bevington (Celina, Ohio / Parkway) and Jacki Street (Grafton, Ohio / Midview) combined to register five kills to help Heidelberg jump out to a 7-1 lead in set one. The Berg led by as many as 10 on multiple occasions, and finished with a 25-15 win.
 
 In set two, Heidelberg scored the first five points, but John Carroll responded and eventually pulled within one, 12-11. Heidelberg took advantage of a JCU attack error to lead to a 3-0 run and went on to outscore the host Blue Streaks 10-7 to post a 25-18 win.
 
John Carroll and Heidelberg battled back and forth from the start of set three. With the set tied at 12-12, Jackie Reinhart (New Riegel, Ohio / New Riegel) and Amanda Atchison (Frankfort, Ohio / Frankfort Adena) had back-to-back kills to give the Berg the lead for good. Heidelberg posted a sweep of JCU with a 25-17 win in set three.
 
Leading the way with a match-high 13 kills was Street. She had 13 kills in 16 attempts with just one error to finish with a .750 hitting percentage. Venessa Haase (Miamisburg, Ohio / Miamisburg) had seven kills followed by Bevington with six. Haase also added 14 digs and four service aces.
 
Brittany Donelan (North Olmsted, Ohio / North Olmsted) contributed four service aces as well, to go along with 18 digs.
 
Morgan Magers (Green Springs, Ohio / Old Fort) dished out 34 assists, while Reinhart had two blocks for the Berg defense.
 
Heidelberg takes a break from OAC action this weekend when it hosts the Heidelberg Quad which includes fellow nationally-ranked foes Wittenberg University and Carthage College, as well as Webster University. Action begins Friday, Oct. 23 at 5:00 p.m. when the Berg faces Wittenberg.
