Athletic Training

The Athletic Training Department provides both a CAATE accredited Athletic Training Education Program and Sports Medicine Services. The division of Sports Medicine Services provides Heidelberg University student athletes with the highest quality health care. The sports medicine services are provided by Certified Athletic Trainers (ATC) working under the supervision of the Medical Director. Certified Athletic Trainers are highly trained allied health care professionals with diverse educational and experiential backgrounds. The Certified Athletic Trainers are certified by the National Athletic Trainers' Association Board of Certification (NATABOC) and licensed by the State of Ohio to practice Athletic Training.

Athletic training students, from the CAATE accredited Athletic Training Education Program, under the direct supervision of the ATCs, augment the health care services provided to the student-athletes. The comprehensive health care services include injury prevention, recognition and assessment, treatment, rehabilitation, strength and conditioning, and health care administration. Additional health care services are provided through referral to Stoner Health Center and to area sports medicine specialists.
For any questions regarding Sports Medicine Services, contact the Head Athletic Trainer: Jerry Bean, MS, ATC, CSCS, LAT at 419-448-2519 or via e-mail at jbean@heidelberg.edu.
