The Heidelberg Athletic Training Department faculty is a group of diverse and energetic professionals who truly have a desire to educate and mentor athletic training students. They are current in athletic training methods and philosophies because of their commitment to continuing education and professional development.
Trevor Bates, MS, ATC, LAT, CIE
Chair, Program Director & Assistant Professor of Athletic Training
Mr. Bates comes to Heidelberg with a passionate and progressive approach towards the development of the Athletic Training Department both academically and clinically. As a Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC), he has provided athletic training education and services to athletes at high school, NJCAA, NCCAA, NCAA Division I & III athletic levels. His clinical work experience also includes patient care in orthopedic and sports medicine physician offices (as a physician extender), outpatient orthopedic rehabilitation and sports enhancement settings. He has more than five years of teaching experience in Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education accredited programs and has taught most major coursework within athletic training as well coursework within departments of physical education, kinesiology and exercise science. He is a versatile educator who addresses students' learning styles and prepares them to become competent and functional professionals. Mr. Bates does not have direct clinical responsibilities but you couldn't tell from his regular presence in the athletic training room! In his first two years at Heidelberg, Mr. Bates has been invited to give professional presentations at both GLATA and OATA and is a member of the OATA Student Committee.

Ryan Musgrave, MS, ATC, LAT, CIE
Clinical Education Coordinator, Athletic Trainer, Instructor
Ryan has a varied background and experience in the field of athletic training and brings a tremendous amount of educational diversity to the ATEP. Ryan has worked with professional athletes and Olympians to high school and junior high students. From his time working in these settings, he is able to bring valuable experiences into the classroom and clinical setting, not only benefiting the Athletic Training students, but also the student athletes at Heidelberg. Ryan is the primary athletic trainer for Heidelberg's wrestling team.

Jerry Bean, MS, ATC, LAT, CSCS
Head Athletic Trainer, Instructor
Jerry comes to Heidelberg with a diverse history of experience working with a variety of clients ranging from occupational patients to Olympic and international strength competition athletes as well as most levels in between through extensive private contracts. He has prior collegiate experience in NCAA Division I, II and NJCAA athletic programs. In addition to being an NATA Certified Athletic Trainer, he is an NSCA Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist and private pilot. Jerry brings a wealth of professional experiences to help the Athletic Training Department in both the care of student athletes and the education of athletic training students at Heidelberg. Jerry is the primary athletic trainer for Heidelberg's Football, Men's Basketball, & Baseball teams.

Katsumi Takeno, MS, ATC, LAT
Assistant Athletic Trainer, Instructor
Katsumi joins Heidelberg's Athletic Training Staff after completing his graduate study in Sports Science. Katsumi has experience as a 12-time Ironman Triathlon finisher and business person; however, he has not competed since he got run over by a school bus during bike training in 1999. He is also known as “ROCK FISH” among 90’s triathletes and the University of Idaho Swim Team because of his legendarily slow swim lap and ugly swim form. At Heidelberg, Katsumi works with Men’s & Women’s Soccer (Fall), Women’s Basketball (Winter) and Outdoor Track & Field (Spring). He also teaches undergraduate athletic training courses - “Management Strategies in Athletic Training - Lab” and “Clinical Competency – Level III” - using broken English and elegant body language. Katsumi is a native of Osaka, Japan, who extremely loves espresso and snowboarding, and considers weekend BBQ as a part of his lifework.

Stacy Winner, MS, ATC, LAT, PTA, CES
Assistant Athletic Trainer, Instructor
Stacey joins the Heidelberg staff from a variety of experiences. She has worked at all levels, from cardiac rehab and home health to aquatic therapy and the outpatient orthopedic clinic, providing care on and off the field to athletes from adolescents to professional levels. Stacey has utilized her Sports Medicine degree to work with sports enhancement programs and has volunteered time to work with the Special Olympics. Previously the Head Athletic Trainer for Xenia High school she managed seventeen Division I varsity level sports. Dedicated to teaching athletes and students alike, Stacey has been working in the athletic training venue since she herself was injured as an athlete in high school. For our Heidelberg athletes she is the primary athletic trainer for Volleyball, M&W Cross Country, M&W Indoor Track, and Softball.

Ashley Stambolis, ATC, LAT
Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer
Beginning her first year at Heidelberg, Ashley joins us from the University of Maine. While at Maine she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Athletic Training. She has clinical experience working with Men’s & Women’s Soccer and Basketball, Softball, Baseball, Field Hockey, Track and Football at the Division I level and Basketball and Baseball at the Division III level. Ashley also spent her summer working with children’s summer camps throughout Maine. While at Maine she also was involved as an officer and active member of the Athletic Training Student Organization and received the Wes Jordan Athletic Service Award. She will be working towards her Master’s in Education while here at Heidelberg, as well as working with Football and Baseball.
