Friends of Beeghly Library at Heidelberg University have again cooked the books…without any fear of prosecution. The group gathered for its fifth annual Edible Books Fest March 28, 2010 in Heidelberg’s Campus Center Great Hall. Nearly 95 people attended. Forty-six individuals brought culinary creations of books they had read.
Trinity Lescallett created visual and verbal puns on book titles in the table centerpieces.
Judges were David Weininger, Provost of Heidelberg University; Lynda Weininger, representing Heidelberg Gourmet Club; Kiuko Sanders, instructor of Japanese and gourmet chef; Karen Shaffer, Director of Aramark Campus dining Service; and Jeff Whisler, manager of Bob Evans Restaurant.
The following edible book chefs won blue ribbon certificates and gift coupons:
- Most Delicious Award, “Stuffed Shells” by Mary Frey
- Most Humorous Award, “The Kitty Litter Cake” by Peggy George
- Most Artistic Award, “The Birthday Cake” by Debby Roszman
- Best Creation by an Aramark Employee, “The Cat Who Loved Potato Soup” by Pat Craig
Guests awarded the people’s choice award to “Duck Soup” by Kathy Baxter
Winners of additional door prizes supplied by area businesses also were drawn.
