Heidelberg studentsAs the result of a rigorous review of the School of Education’s integrated science licensure program, the school has been granted full national recognition by the National Science Teachers Association, an honor achieved by only 100 universities in the nation since 2005.

To achieve national recognition for the program, the School of Education faculty submitted a program review to demonstrate consistent compliance with the national standards of excellence established by NSTA, according to chair Dr. Bob Swanson. All aspects of the program were independently reviewed by a team of national experts, who granted recognition.

The reviewers noted that the program’s use of assessments provides evidence that “candidates understand the content in their subject areas,” and that the “program’s candidates are positively impacting P-12 student learning in the areas of science content, nature of science, inquiry and issues in science.”
