It’s the most wonderful time of the year! That’s right – it’s the time of the year when the Morpheus, Heidelberg’s student literary magazine, becomes available.
The Morpheus contains 3 three prize winners in each of the categories in the 2012 contest: poetry, fiction, literature-related academic writing, journalism, and visual arts.
The magazine also contains the senior projects from the students in the Senior Seminar in Writing. Brittany Cook’s senior project is a detective story with a compelling female lead named Charlie. Lexie Pinkelman’s senior project is a multi-genre project about the journey of a couple from high school to college. Laura Van Valkenburgh’s project is a poetry collection, each poem utilizing the style of a different alternative rock band.
The Morpheus is published once a year after being produced by the students in the Senior Seminar in Writing. Students at Heidelberg submit their work to the magazine’s contest, and faculty members judge their work to decide on a winner.
The students of the Senior Seminar in Writing edit the pieces and design a layout for the magazine each year. This year, Cook designed the logo and the overall layout for the magazine. Dr. Kimmel, the professor of the course, designed the cover for the magazine.
The publication is available to read on the Heidelberg English department website.
