Masonry work continues to progress steadily on Hoernemann Stadium and The Fox Den Alumni Center. Viewing the project form the 50-yeard-line of the football field, steel beams have begun to appear as support mechanisms for the bleachers take shape.
“Ninety percent of the masonry walls are up,” said Rod Morrison, associate vice president of facilities and engineering.
The next “critical path” will be to complete the areas for concrete planking to be installed to support the bleachers, which should arrive next week.
When installation of the bleachers begins, it will occur from east to west. Before long, the upper level of the bleachers will become visible at the Greenfield Street level, Morrison said.
“All of that will start to become apparent within the next 2-3 weeks.”
Electricians and plumbers have been doing preliminary work on the inside walls, but that activity will pick up soon. “There will be a lot more activity when the walls are finished.”
Plans are for the stadium to be ready for the first home football game on Sept. 6.
