Now playing: South Pacific
Gundlach Theatre will be transformed into a tropical island this weekend as the Communication & Theatre Arts and Music departments stage Rogers and Hammerstein’s classic musical South Pacific.
Under the direction of Rick Groetzinger with musical direction by Michael Anders, the musical takes place on an island in the South Pacific Ocean during World War II, where an army nurse and a French plantation owner, and a marine lieutenant and a teenage Polynesian girl fall in love. The ongoing war against Japan as well as issues of racial prejudice and bigotry must be overcome, however, before the couples can begin their lives together.
Cast in the lead role of Nellie Forbush is Heidelberg junior Casie Scott. Findlay resident Jerry Mathern will play Emile de Becque. Portraying Bloody Mary is sophomore Jessica Rigsby. Sophomore Aly Sullivan will play Liat. Playing Lt. Cable is John Weber, and junior David Glover will play Luther Billis.
Show dates are Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. Call the box office at (419) 448-2305 for ticket reservations.
