Honoring those who have served
“I have seen the face of terror. I have felt the stinging cold of fear. I have lived the times most would say are best forgotten. But at least I can say I am proud of what I was – a soldier.”
On a brisk, clear day and with those words as an inspiration, Heidelberg paid tribute to current and past members of the armed forces at the sixth annual Veterans Day Ceremony in front of Beeghly Library.
Sophomore T.J. Bradley welcomed guests and read the names contained on an honor roll of Heidelberg students who lost their lives serving our country. The plaque, which hangs in College Hall, lists the names of deceased veterans from the 1920s, ’30s and ’40s. The crowd observed a moment of silence in their honor. Junior Ben Schwartz offered an invocation.
Members of Tiffin’s United Veterans Council presented a 21-gun salute to the fallen soldiers.
