An option for future docs
Heidelberg students interested in pursuing a doctor of osteopathic medicine degree can complete their bachelor’s degree and doctorate in seven years through the “3+4 LECOM Medical Program” at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine.
Administrators from both schools have signed an agreement that will pave the way for Heidelberg students who have completed three years of study to enroll at LECOM to pursue their doctor of osteopathic medicine degree. After completing their first year at LECOM, they will earn their bachelor’s degree from Heidelberg.
“This is a very, very exciting day for us,” said President Dottavio. “As we continue to think about how to provide additional opportunities for our students, and this is a great option for them.”
He added that the agreement fits ideally with Heidelberg’s mission, which is to provide seamless and continuous education for students and to find creative ways to meld the liberal arts curriculum with professional preparation. “This is a terrific opportunity for our students. We are very, very pleased to partner with LECOM in this new venture.”
LECOM was represented at the signing by Susan Lazarro, director of Student Affairs, and John Wojtkielewicz, an admission associate.
Lazzaro said of the agreement: “We are pleased to be connected with such a fine liberal arts college. It is part of our vision, too, to locate and enroll the best and brightest students. This is very much in keeping with what we want to establish.”
