Student travel grants awarded

Eight students competed for grants to travel to Germany in June 2008 in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of American Junior Year Program.  Board of Trustees member Andrew F. Kalnow will donate $10,000 to a fund for students traveling with the honors seminar, German Impressions.  The course offered in the spring will culminate with a week-long trip to Heidelberg and Nuremberg in June.  Announcement of the winners was held Thursday, Dec. 6, 2007, in the Honors House.

In addition to tours planned by the Alumni Office for alumni and friends, and the Heidelberg Concert Choir, which will be performing at the celebration, the Heidelberg Honors Program is sponsoring a tour in conjunction with an honors seminar to be offered in the spring.  The Honors Program wanted to raise awareness of Heidelberg's association with the University of Heidelberg among all students and wanted to provide an opportunity for students to participate in the celebration of this event.  The course may be taken for 2 hours credit without the travel, or for 3 hours credit, which will include travel.

The Kalnow donation will assist students with expenses incurred on the trip as well as encourage interest in German language and culture. Students competed on the basis of a short paper on Germany and a presentation that took place November 28, 2007.

Congratulations to the winners!
