Singing their hearts out
The 48 singers who comprise the Concert Choir, along with their director, Dr. Grant Cook, have been selected to perform at the Ohio Music Education Association annual professional development conference Feb. 7 in Cincinnati.
Selected through a rigorous blind audition process, the choir is one of about 25 groups selected to perform. It’s the fourth time since 2001 they’ll make an appearance at the conference.
“It really is a big honor for us. It’s great for the department and wonderful exposure for Heidelberg,” said Grant, who noted that the conference is a large draw for alumni and other music educators and choral directors.
The choir’s repertoire for its 45-minute program will be a mix of traditional western Europe concert music and traditional African American hymns and spirituals. It is the same program they performed in November in Brecksville, Ohio, and the same program they’re preparing for their trip to Germany in June. All of the selections are unaccompanied.
In March, the choir will fine tune its program with a performance at the First Presbyterian Church in Findlay, and will travel to Michigan March 7-9 for a mini-tour.
