A wave of pink
Heidelberg’s colors are red, orange and black, but pink was the predominant color in Seiberling Gymnasium last night.
Under the direction of Coach Karen McConnell, the women’s basketball team and their rivals from John Carroll University donned pink warm-ups and pink headbands. The referees wore pink boas and used pink whistles. And the team offered refreshments of pink cookies and cupcakes and pink lemonade.

A total of 980 colleges nationwide are participating in the program this year, including the 10 Ohio Athletic Conference colleges.
There was also an abundance of pink in the stands as the team honored breast cancer survivors at halftime. Among them was McConnell’s mother, several members of Heidelberg’s faculty and staff as well as a parent of a current student.
Proceeds from the game are being donated to aid in breast cancer research.
