Lemmon Garners All-Region Honors

Senior forward Andrew Lemmon (Port Clinton, Ohio / Port Clinton) of the Heidelberg College men’s basketball team has earned a spot on the D3hoops.com All-Great Lakes Region Second Team as voted on and nominated by Division III Sports Information Directors. Lemmon is just third fourth player to earn all-region accolades and is the first since two-time honoree Lucas Messer was honored in 2002-03 and 2003-04. Also on the list of all-region players are Jerry Buccilla (1983-84) and Josh Murphy (1996-97).

Lemmon, an Ohio Athletic Conference First Team honoree and OAC Tournament Most Valuable Player, nearly averaged a double-double on the year, pouring in a team-leading 14.8 points and grabbing a team-best 9.8 rebounds a game. He also led the team with 27 blocks and with a .430 three-point field goal percentage, while standing second in steals with 38 and made three-pointers with 55. For the year, Lemmon tallied 14 double-doubles and also was named to the Academic All-OAC First Team.

Over his four-year career, Lemmon recorded 1,149 points, ranking him 15th all-time. Against Marietta College on Feb. 9 he became the 27th player to score a 1,000 career points in a ’Berg uniform and was the third one to accomplish the feat on the year.

Heidelberg, under the tutelage of sixth-year head coach Duane Sheldon, finished the year at 23-6 overall, including a 14-4 mark against Ohio Athletic Conference opponents. The 20 wins on the year marks just the second 20-win season in program history and the 23 actual wins stands second for wins in a single-season. Highlighted within its overall record was a 20-5 regular season that ties the 1983-84 team for the best regular season record. Along the way, the Berg won its first OAC Tournament Title and earned its third overall trip to the NCAA Tournament.
