Men's tennis tops Marietta

The Heidelberg College men’s tennis team defeated Ohio Athletic Conference opponent Marietta College 8-1 for its fourth win of the season on Saturday. Overall the Student Princes remain even with a 4-4 record, 1-1 in the OAC.

The day saw the Berg win all three doubles matches, and five of the six singles. Max Norris (Toledo, Ohio / Springfield) defeated Marietta’s Bruce Kitchens 6-0, 6-0 in the first singles match up, while Moody Al-Turk (Sandusky, Ohio / Perkins) won the second 6-0, 6-2. At third singles, Heidelberg was victorious once again when Jacob Craig (Toledo, Ohio / Sylvania) sat Mark Briggs down in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2. He was followed by the Berg’s lone loss of the day at fourth singles where Dylan Booth (Westerville, Ohio / Westerville Central) lost to Mike Carpenter from Marietta, 6-1, 6-2. Fifth and sixth singles tallied two more wins for Heidelberg from Brad Cerveny (North Royalton, Ohio / North Royalton) and Miles Yetter (Dublin, Ohio / Dublin Jerome).

Norris and Craig won first doubles 8-4, while Al-Turk and Yetter took second doubles 8-3. The duo of Lee Moomaw (Bloomville, Ohio / Columbian) and Ryan Michel (Milan, Ohio / Edison) received a default from the Pioneers at third doubles.

The men appear on the court once again on Wednesday, April 2, at Capital University in Columbus, Ohio. Play begins at 3:30 p.m.
