Wrestling Opens Year with a Tie

Olivet, Mich. – November 9, 2010 – The nationally ranked Heidelberg University wrestling team, and first year head coach Nathan Shearer, opened its 2010-11 campaign with an 18-18 tie at Olivet College in Olivet, Mich.

At 285 pounds, Jerry Knapp (Olmsted Falls, Ohio / Olmsted Falls) posted an 8-5 decision to help seal a tie for Heidelberg. Prior to Knapp’s victory newcomer Jason Russell (Columbus, Ohio / West) pulled the Berg within three points after pinning Aaron Sullenger in 4:35 at 197 pounds.

The match began with the host Comets taking the first three bouts to hold an 11-0 advantage.

Sean Pincura (Amherst, Ohio / Midview) responded at 149 pounds to get the Berg on the scoreboard. Pincura defeated Vince Tucker 9-7 and started a string of three straight ’Berg victories.

At 157 pounds, Cory Martinson (Brunswick, Ohio / St. Edwards) had an 8-4 decision over Kyle Judy prior to Matt Curley (Brecksville, Ohio / Lakewood) registering a 4-3 decision at 165 pounds.

An Olivet decision at 174 pounds followed by a major decision at 197 gave the Comets an 18-9 advantage and set the stage for Heidelberg’s comeback.
