Optimism abounds in presidential search
The search for Heidelberg’s 14th president is in full swing. Dr. Susan Resneck Pierce, who’s working as the college’s search consultant through Academic Search, has recently contacted presidents, provosts and chief academic officers at colleges and universities around the country, as well as leaders of foundations and higher education associations, seeking for nominations and applications.
Dr. Pierce reports that the response to her initial round of contacts has been positive and encouraging. Sondra Libman, chair of the board, shares that confidence. “I am personally quite excited about the response to our opening, and remain optimistic about our chances of finding a president who will meet our expectations,” she wrote in an announcement to the campus community.
The search committee has adopted an ambitious schedule. Although the search will remain open until the next president is appointed, the committee encourages candidates to submit their materials by Oct. 6. Search committee members plan to meet in mid-October to select the candidates who will be interviewed at a neutral site in November. The process will unfold from there.
In April, Dr. F. Dominic Dottavio announced that after five years as Heidelberg’s president, he had accepted the presidency at Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas. Several weeks later, the Board of Trustees announced that Dr. James A. Troha, currently the Vice President for Student Affairs and dean of the college, will serve as interim president.
