Student Prince makeover: A fiercer presence

For many years, Heidelberg’s Student Prince has been regarded as one of the most unique college nicknames. Last weekend, the college unveiled a contemporary new mascot image worthy of the iconic Student Prince.

This fall, the athletic teams are sporting the new Student Prince of Heidelberg image that has been redesigned to convey a fierce and intimidating presence.

The Office of Communication & Marketing worked with educational marketing consultants Carnegie Communications of Boston to create the new image, with input from coaches, students, administrators, alumni and the college’s Marketing Advisory Group.

The new image also appears on the renovated Mayer Field and at center court in Seiberling Gymnasium. The Heidelberg Bookstore has apparel featuring the new image, and the he appears on the front of this year’s Berg Pride T-shirts.

A costumed Student Prince mascot also was unveiled Friday night, He made his debut at the Meet the Teams rally and then made his first official appearance at Heidelberg's first home football game Saturday. He apparently brought a good aura; the Heidelberg trounced Westminster, 62-27.
