Choir to perform with Toledo Symphony
When the Toledo Symphony Orchestra opens its 65th season this weekend, the members of the Heidelberg Concert Choir will be among a 250-voice chorus, accompanying the orchestra on Gustav Mahler’s majestic and mysterious Resurrection.
Resurrection will be performed Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. at the Toledo Museum of Art Peristyle. The Concert Choir, under the direction of Dr. Grant Cook, will join choruses from Bowling Green State University, Ohio Northern University and Bluffton University. Principal conductor is Stefan Sanderling. Vocal solos will be performed by Rachele Gilmore and Suzanna Guzman.
Mahler’s Resurrection is described as a triumphant testament to the power of the human spirit. According to The (Toledo) Blade, “Few pieces of music in the entire classical repertoire offer the electricity, emotional range and musical diversity of this masterpiece. Mahler slaved over it for seven years. …”
