Bringing Back the Red, Orange & Black

Homecoming Week 2008 kicked off Monday with the annual Heidelberg Idol competition. A wide variety of events for students and alumni are planned throughout the week, and will culminate this weekend with presentation of the Young Alumni Award and induction of the 2008 class into the Athletic Hall of Fame.

Students have an opportunity to participate in games, contests and concerts throughout the week. Friday night, a pep rally will cap off the week’s events leading up to the Grand Ball that evening and crowning of the homecoming king and queen at halftime of the football game Saturday. Friday is also Go Berg Day, where students, faculty and staff are encouraged to wear Heidelberg gear.

The Student Homecoming Committee will host a carnival at 11 a.m. at Frost-Kalnow Stadium preceding the football game vs. Ohio Athletic Conference rival Ohio Northern at 1:30 p.m. Food, games and activities for all ages will be available at the carnival. Faculty and staff are invited to stop by the alumni tent at half time of the game.

The campus community is invited to attend any of the weekend events coordinated by the Office of Alumni Relations. Friday evening, alumnus Chris Monsour, ’99, will receive the Young Alumni Achievement Award at a dinner prior to the performance of Into the Woods.

The Alumni Office will host a Meet the Authors event from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Saturday in the Campus Center. Professor Emeritus Archie Thomas, current professors Dr. David Hogan, Dr. Vicki Ohl, Dr. Marc O’Reilly and Dr. Bill Reyer will join alumni Bartie Jones, ’46, Russell Young, ’52, and Janine (Johnson) Miller-Delaney, ’89, at their book signings.

The classes of 1993, 1998 and 2003 will hold reunions on Saturday. Also that evening, the H-Association will induct the following alumni into the Athletic Hall of Fame: Eugene Amlin, ’54; Shawn Winkelfoos, ’92; Stacy Scudder, ’93; and the 1983-84 men’s basketball team.

The weekend concludes with the installation of Campus Minister Paul Stark at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Great Hall.
