Step out of reality and ‘Into the Woods’

Gundlach Theatre will be transformed into a fairy tale as the Heidelberg theatre and music departments stage Stephen Sondheim’s beloved musical Into the Woods this weekend. Inspired by Bruno Bettelheim’s 1976 book, The Uses of Enchantment, the musical intertwine the plots of several Brothers Grimm fairy tales and through them, explores the consequences of the characters’ wishes and quests.
 
The main characters are taken from the stories of Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk, Rapunzel and Cinderella, tied together by  a story involving a baker and his wife and their quest to begin a family.
 
Cast in lead roles are Jessica Rigsby as the witch; Kimberly States as Cinderella; David Glover as the narrator; Jeff Meyers Jr. as the baker; Casie Scott as the baker’s wife; Lucy Anders as Little Red; Brian Biller as the Mysterious Man; Jeremy Bowersox as Jack; Natalie McFadden as Sleeping Beauty; Chelsea Nupp as Rapunzel; and Hayley Pletcher as Snow White.
 
Rounding out the cast are Kyle Adam as Milky White; Amy Berger as Cinderella’s stepmother; Jenna Bollinger as Jack’s mother; Patrick Clinage as Rapunzel’s prince; Gary Gondeck as Cinderella’s prince; Elizabeth Hall as Florinda, Emily Hall as Lucinda; Brent Holmes as Cinderella’s father; Sandy Kimmel as the giantess and Cinderella’s mother; Robert Kowalczyk as the wolf and the steward; and Kimberly Morris as Granny.
 
Dr. Jennifer Schuetz, assistant professor of voice, is directing the production with production assistanc from and Chris Tucci, director of Theatre.
