Hallett signs contract extension
Interim president Dr. Jim Troha announced today that Heidelberg College has signed head football coach Mike Hallett to a two-year contract extension through 2010. In two seasons, Hallett has moved the Berg among the notables in the Ohio Athletic Conference.
“Mike has orchestrated an incredible turnaround in our football program since joining us in 2007,” said Troha. “He has done a tremendous job in providing stability, and recruiting and retaining top quality student-athletes. We are very happy to extend his contract as we look forward to increased success in the future.”
“First and foremost, on behalf of my family, we are excited to continue to work with a great institution like Heidelberg,” said Hallett. “Heidelberg has great faith in the football program that has been working to rebuild its storied history and move forward to new heights. I am glad to see that the efforts of our coaching staff and student-athletes are being recognized as we continually strive to move in the right direction.”In his first season at the helm, Hallett guided the Berg to a 4-6 overall record and a 3-6 mark versus OAC foes, marking the best season at the Berg since 1999. Heidelberg opened the year snapping a 36-game losing streak with a 37-26 win over Oberlin College. Highlighting the year was the Berg’s 42-20 win over nationally ranked Baldwin-Wallace College, which was the first win over a ranked opponent since 1993. For his efforts Hallett, was tabbed the OAC Coach of the Year and the D3football.com North Region Coach of the Year.
In 2008, Hallett brought in one of the largest recruiting classes and has led the Berg to one of its best offensive outputs in the history of the program. Just past the midway point of the season, Heidelberg stands at 1-5 overall, but has provided a challenge for the top-half of the league.
“There have been encouraging steps taken with the renovations of Seiberling Gymnasium office spaces, the locker rooms, as well as the new lighted synthetic turf field which are all phases of the overall new student-oriented Recreation and Activity Complex,” commented Hallett. “It is a great feeling to be part of such dedication to the student body at Heidelberg.”
