Supporters Back the Berg
On Friday, July 24, Heidelberg University athletic supporters joined forces on the links at Westfield Group Country Club to raise money for the Berg student-athletes. The sixth annual Back the Berg Golf Outing was organized by the “H” Association and was sponsored by DDG / D3 Development Inc. A total of 90 golfers came out in support of Heidelberg athletics.
Shooting a 60, 12 under par, the group of Kevin Leahy, Zenon Zorij, Paul Ward and Vic Marinello took home the championship. In a close second was the ’93 crew of Adam Smith, Steve Maple, Criss Maple and Greg Lehrer after firing a 62.
During the round, golfers were able to take part in contest holes such as long drive, closest to the pin and long putt. At the conclusion of the day the contest winners went head-to-head in a playoff on the 18th hole. Taking home top honors in the long drive was John Verdes, while Marinello was the closest to the pin winner and Jim Troha won long putt.
Following golf, all participants enjoyed a chicken barbeque sponsored by The Carriage Group and Heidelberg Board of Trustee President Sondra Gerhardt Libman.
