Tiffin, Ohio – February 11, 2010 – Four players scored in double figures but time ran out in an 81-74 setback for the Heidelberg University men’s basketball team against visiting Capital University, tonight, February 11. The game was originally slated to be played yesterday, but was postponed due to inclement weather.
Following the contest, Capital improves to 14-8 overall and 9-6 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Berg stands at 12-10 overall and 8-7 against league foes.
Heidelberg’s Dane Givner (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Harvest Preparatory) scored on the games first possession, but Capital answered with a 15-2 run to take the lead that it would never relinquish. Zach Golec (Dennison, Ohio / Claymont) hit a jumper at the 6:54 mark of the first to pull the Berg within a point, 17-16. Capital returned with two free throws and extended its lead to 10 points, 32-22, at the break.
In the second half, Heidelberg cut its deficit to five points, 41-36, with 14:07 remaining in the contest, but that would be as close as they could get. Capital pushed its lead to as many as 16 points before the Berg began a comeback, pulling within single-digits in the final minute.
Leading the way for the Berg was Travis Kinn (Alvada, Ohio / New Reigel) with 17 points and six rebounds. Givner finished with 13 points and five rebounds, while Josh Calver (Shelby, Ohio / Shelby) and John Miller (Millersburg, Ohio / West Holmes) followed with 12 and 11 points, respectively.
Nate Davis (Dayton, Ohio / Stivers) shared team-honors on the glass with Kinn.
Capital was led by Spencer Niekamp’s 21 points and eight rebounds.
