Eau Claire, Wis. – December 29, 2009 – The Heidelberg University men’s basketball team fell 78-63 to Buena Vista University in game one of the 2009 Holiday Classic hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in Eau Claire, Wis. tonight, December 29, 2009. The win snaps a three-game winning streak for the Berg who falls to 7-4 on the year. Buena Vista improves to 6-3 with the win.
Heidelberg will face either UW-Eau Claire or Coe College tomorrow at 6:00 p.m. central standard time in the consolation game of the classic.
Buena Vista scored first in the game and never trailed en route to the win. BVU shot 50.0 percent (26-of-52) from the field compared to just a 37.7 clip (23-of-61) by the Berg. Heidelberg held a slim 38-37 advantage on the glass.
For the game, Josh Calver (Shelby, Ohio /Shelby) led the Berg with 13 points, two assists, two steals and two rebounds. Dane Givner (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Harvest Preparatory) finished with 12 points, four rebounds and two assists.
