Business leader named commencement speaker
Colorado business leader John A. Kelley will return to campus to deliver the keynote address at the university’s commencement ceremony May 8. If you attended the Alumni Business Conference in the spring of 2008, you may remember the impassioned talk John gave about the importance of business ethics and principled leadership in the business world.
John is currently the chairman and member of the board of CereScan Corp., a Denver-based provider of high-definition functional brain imaging. At CereScan, Kelley is involved in market development for advanced diagnostic imaging for medical, legal, military and other applications. The company plans to develop and open 20 imaging centers by 2011, becoming the first national network of high-definition specialized brain imaging centers serving physicians and the health care industry. The company focuses on a variety of brain injuries, such as Toxic Brain Injury, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, ADHD, depression, Anxiety Disorder, Bipolar Disorder and Alzheimer’s Disease. A resident of Golden, Colo., John was previously the chairman of the board, president and CEO of McDATA Corp., a worldwide leader in open storage networking and data infrastructure solutions. At McDATA, he rebuilt the management team, introduced several new products to the global market, acquired and integrated new private and public companies and grew the company from $200 million to $630 million annual income. He also held senior management positions with Qwest Communication (formerly U.S. West), Mead Corp., Xerox and NBI.
John received his bachelor’s degree in business from the University of Missouri, St. Louis. He serves on the board of directors of Polycom Inc., and is a member of the Rocky Mountain INROADS Board, a not-for-profit mentoring program, and a board member of the Women’s Vision Foundation and Tie-Rockies.
