Student-athlete takes one thing at a time

The Heidelberg volleyball team has high expectations for its program and everyone involved knows to never take anything for granted. A prime example is senior co-captain Brittany Donelan.

Brittany Donelan“I take one thing at a time,” said Donelan. “I knew if I wanted to help move the volleyball team to the next level it would not just have to happen on the court. I would need to handle myself in the classroom as well.”

And she has handled herself. She is a three time academic all-district selection and was the Ohio Athletic Conference’s (OAC) September Scholar-Athlete of the Month. On the court she is an All-American and a three-time OAC Libero of the Year.

Donelan will leave with two OAC Regular Season titles and a tournament trophy on her resume. And Heidelberg is getting set to embark on its fourth consecutive trip to the NCAA Regionals on Thursday, Nov. 11.

“As a team we set high expectations and we approach every match separately and build off of them, said Donelan. “We play every match like it is our last because you cannot take anything for granted.” To be a student at Heidelberg takes dedication and hard work, but adding success on the court brings a whole new dimension to ones overall student experience.

Donelan takes great pride in leading the volleyball team to new heights. “It means the world to me to represent Heidelberg. It is an honor to put on that jersey. If somebody hears about Heidelberg it is attributed to our hard work and dedication. It keeps alumni and everyone coming back.”

The regular season championship is checked off her list, as is a tournament title. Next thing on Donelan’s list is the NCAA Regionals.
