Assistant Professor of Communication

The Heidelberg University Department of Communication and Media seeks a qualified, experienced, full-time Assistant Professor of Communication (communication generalist). This position will be given a multi-year contract with possibility of conversion to a tenure track position.

Description

This position, which will report to the Chair of the Department of Communication and Media, will be responsible for teaching a 4/4 load. The new faculty member will be asked to teach multiple sections of our introductory public speaking course (a general education requirement) along with a broad range of courses in communication studies. The new faculty member will be expected to serve as an academic advisor, to provide service to the University (including assistance with recruiting efforts), to maintain an active research program, and to perform other essential duties as outlined in the faculty manual.

Qualifications

  •  Ph.D. or ABD in Communication or related field
  •  Two years of college-level teaching experience
  •  Ability to teach introductory courses in public speaking as well as other communication studies courses, such as visual communication, organizational communication, group communication and leadership, persuasion, intercultural communication, and interpersonal communication
  •  Innovative and collaborative teaching methods that support the Department’s mission to promote
  • communication and media literacy through an active educational environment

Preferred Qualifications

  •  Ability to teach health communication
  •  Ability to support the integrated media curriculum
