The School of Music and Theater at Heidelberg University solicits applications for Assistant Professor of Chorus and Music Education to begin August 2013. The appointee will conduct the University-Community Chorus and other choral ensembles as assigned. He/she will also teach music education courses, including Introduction to Music Education, and supervise student teachers. Additional instruction based on the candidate’s expertise and departmental need, possibly including Elementary Music Methods, music theory, music literature, and/or voice class for non-majors. The candidate will be expected to demonstrate active support of the University’s choral program, be an active recruiter, and support departmental and university activities. Summer teaching in Heidelberg’s summer-only Master of Music Education program is possible, depending upon the candidate’s qualifications. This position will be given a multi-year contract with possibility of conversion to a tenure track position.

Qualifications

Graduate degree in music education required; doctorate preferred (Ph.D., or equivalent; ABD acceptable). Minimum of 3 years successful public school teaching required. Demonstrated excellence as a choral music educator/conductor. Other desirable qualifications include elementary-level music teaching experience; familiarity with Orff, Kodaly, and Dalcroze methodologies; experience in contemporary a cappella and/or jazz choral ensembles.
