Summer Bridge Program
At the end of each academic year 25 active CAP members are elected to participate in a week long summer camp at Heidelberg University. The main purpose of the summer camp is to give students an opportunity to experience life on a college or university campus.
The week consists of attending college classes taught by Heidelberg professors. The professors are; Dr. Steve Velasquez – Science, Dr. David Hogan – History, Dr. Neil Sass – Psychology, Dr. David Kimmel – English. Read biographies written by the students during the 2008-2009 summer camp.
Motivational speakers that prepare students for different obstacles that minority students normally experience as these students become an adult. The speakers not only inform students about these obstacles, but prepare them how to overcome them.
The students also get an opportunity to interact with the buddies during the week. The interaction with buddies can include social group at the end of each day, playing a basketball game or any other activities. This gives students time to have the one on one interaction and ask a variety of questions.
