Internship Information
The Office of Career Development administers the Internship Program to provide students the opportunity to obtain practical on-the-job experience while earning up to 15 hours of academic credit. Internships are available to students in good academic standing who have demonstrated the ability to produce high quality work. Detailed guidelines are available in the Heidelberg Internship Program Handbook.
Heidelberg College is committed to the principle that student internships involving practical, real-world work experience can represent a valuable part of the collegiate experience. Faculty members supervise and help to arrange a broad range of intern experiences in various settings: business and artistic organizations, government agencies, communications media, and public interest groups. Students are sometimes offered full-time employment as a direct result of an internship experience.
Faculty Supervisor Guidelines for Internships:
-
Help the Student set objectives for the internship prior to his/her agency interview.
-
Approve the Student’s Learning Contract after the agency interview. He/She may meet with the Off-Campus Supervisor and the student to establish responsibilities.

-
Assist the Student in assessing his/her progress in achieving the objectives of the internship during monthly meetings (preferably in person, although phone or email can be used when distance is prohibitive).
-
Meet with (or call) the Off-Campus Supervisor to discuss the Student’s progress (at least twice during the semester).
-
Complete a Faculty Supervisor Midterm Evaluation and Final Evaluation.
-
Set up a departmental review session for the Student at the completion of the internship or within one month of completion.
-
Contact the Director of Career Development if any problems or concerns arise.
