New Student Welcome Schedule

Welcome Days are planned to help students adjust to their new college. Most events are helpful to both first year and transfer students. Although not all events are mandatory, students may miss important information should they decide not to attend. Each student is individually responsible for knowing the information distributed during Welcome Days Events. Attendance is taken at those events marked with an asterisk.

         

Thursday August 21, 2008

9:00 AM – 2:00 PM          *Residence Hall Check-in

Residential Students should check into their residence halls. They will receive their orientation information with their room keys.

3:30 PM – 3:50 PM          *Commuter Students Check-in

Commuter Students will receive their orientation information prior to the New Student Assembly at Sieberling Gym.

3:30 PM- 3:45 PM          Legacy Picture

Alumni and their children will gather in front of Laird Hall for a Heidelberg legacy photo

4:00 PM – 5:00 PM          *New Student Assembly

Come celebrate with the Heidelberg College community the arrival of the class of 2010. Faculty, dressed in their academic regalia, will welcome new students to the college. Each new student will participate in the official pinning ceremony and sign their class book. Family and friends are welcome to attend the official start of their new student’s college career.

5:00 PM – 6:30 PM          Family Farewell Dinner

Famiies are an important part of all of our lives, however it is time for us to say goodbye to our immediate families as we join the Heidelberg College community. Please join the Heidelberg College faculty, staff and students for a farewell dinner in recognition of all the family members in attendance.

6:45 PM – 7:30 PM          *Student Group Meeting

Students will meet their Orientation Leader; learn about upcoming weeks at Heidelberg. Please bring your Planner for this session.

7:45 PM – 8:15 PM          *Residence Hall Meetings

All residential students new to the College must meet with their building staff. The residential staff will post locations of the meeting in your residential area.

7:45 PM – 8:15 PM          *Commuter Meeting

All new students commuting to the college will meet to discuss what it means to commute to a residential campus and how to get involved on campus.

8:30 PM – 10:00 PM          Think Fast

Students will square off on Think Fast, a mobile, interactive trivia game show with lots of Heidelberg College Gear to win the 90-minute competition challenges contestants with trivia questions from subjects such as art, history, music, science, politics, etc. Points are awarded according to the speed in which correct answers are given.

10:00 PM – 1:00 AM          New Student Luau

Now that all new students have arrived, come join the Heidelberg Greek Organizations and meet your new classmates including the ones you did not have a chance to meet during your summer session. Don’t forget your grass skirt!!

Students who took high school speech can take the written portion of the speech proficiency exam.

10:00 AM – 11:30 AM          * Student Group Meeting

Students will meet with their Orientation Leader; to discuss topics important to being a student at Heidelberg College. Please bring your Planner for this session.

11:30 AM – 1:00 PM          Lunch
1:00 PM – 2:30 PM          * Choices Regarding Sex

Students will meet in groups with college administrators to talk about issues involving sex.

4:00 PM – 4:45 PM          Music Information

Join the music department and learn about participating in one of many of the music groups on campus. This session is specifically meant for non-majors.

5:00 PM – 7:00 PM          Student Group Dinner

Please join your Heidelberg College Student Group during a meal in the dining hall

7:00 PM – 9:00 PM          *Community Connections, Real World, Creating Your Image on Campus

Students will meet various members of the community and discuss important policies and expectations required of Heidelberg College Students.

9:00 PM - 11:00 PM          Double Dare Game Show

BEC takes you back to your childhood with a great game of double dare.

8:00 AM – 3:00 PM          Tiffin Community YMCA Orientation

Students wishing to use the YMCA must get a free YMCA membership card

9:00 AM – 11:00 AM          Campus Service Projects

Its always a great idea to give back to your community. Join your class for its first opportunity to give back to the Heidelberg Campus Community, in the Clean up the Creek effort (limited spaces)

9:00 AM – 5:00 PM          Wal-Mart Van shuttles

Shuttles will be running regularly from the Campus center back parking lot to Wal-Mart. If you forgot something, now is a great opportunity to get to the store.

9:30 AM – 2:30 PM          SDS Interpretations

Students completed the Self Directed Search during the summer orientation. Students will be given the results of those test.

11:00 AM – 12:00 PM          *English Writing Test

Students that need to take the English writing test will have an opportunity to do so.

11:30 AM – 1:00 PM          Lunch at the YMCA

The YMCA will be providing Lunch for all New Students

12:00 PM – 1:00 PM          Lunch with a Leader

Students have an opportunity to meet with the senior leadership of the college and talk one on one with them over lunch. The space for lunch is limited. Please reserve your place by contacting the Dean of Students office at 2062.

1:00 PM – 2:00 PM          Heidelberg Twister

Join the OLs for the largest Game of Twister you have ever been mixed up in.

3:00 PM – 5:00 PM          Smokey Hallways

Do you know what to do in case of a fire? At this session Tiffin Fire Personnel will teach you how to navigate a hallway filled with smoke as well as how to properly use a fire extinguisher.

4:00 PM – 5:00 PM *English Writing Test

Students that need to take the English writing test will have an opportunity to do so.

5:00 PM – 6:30 PM          Dinner
6:30 PM – 7:00 PM          Pep Rally

Its time for some Prince Pride. Join the upperclassman as we prepare to cheer on our sports teams

7:00 PM - 9:00 PM          Football Scrimmage

Join your student group to cheer on the Football team for its first scrimmage. Prizes will be awarded for the most group spirit.

9:00 PM - 11:00 PM      Night at the Movies "Forgetting Sarah Marshall"

God is good all the time . . . come gather for worship and offer thanksgiving to God for all the good things God has done. All are welcome and invited to worship at this student led service where God's love binds us and we learn through prayer, song, and scripture to see God in everyone.

11:00 AM – 12:00 PM          *Student Groups

New Students will meet with their Heidelberg College Student Groups and advisor

12:00 PM – 1:00 PM          *Advisor Picnic

Join your student group and advisor, for a picnic on the lawn.

1:10 PM – 1:50 PM          *Alcohol Awareness/College Policy

Orientation Leaders will discuss alcohol policies on and off campus and students will then meet with the Dean of Students to discuss the College Code of Conduct

2:00 PM – 2:45 PM          *Roommate Contracts

During this time, you and your roommate will meet with your RA to communicate your roommate expectations and agree on issues that involve your living space.

3:00 PM – 4:00 PM          Involvement Fair

Students will have an opportunity to meet with each of 60 campus student organizations to find those out of classroom experiences that make lasting memories.

4:30 PM – 6:00 PM          Dinner
7:00 PM – 8:30 PM          *T-Bridge

The upper-class students would like to welcome all new students to the college. Learn about our traditions from upper-class students as they present you with your Heidelberg College Beanie.

8:30 PM – 9:00 PM          BSU Reception

Students interested in joining Black Student Union are invited to a reception to learn about the activities and events sponsored by BSU.

9:00 PM - 10:00 PM          Whose Line is it Anyway?
