Alternative Spring Break: Service Learning

Purpose of Trip:
- To meet the housing reconstruction needs of low income individuals and families in the New Orleans are who are suffering due to natural disaster.
- To learn of the culture and people of the New Orleans Community.
- To explore the connection between spirituality and community service
- To practice four traits of self learning: 1)commitment to the community partnership; 2) learning and academic rigor; 3) Intentional reflective thinking; 4) Practice of Civic Responsibility.
Cost:
$150 covers cost of transportation, food (in New Orleans), and lodging.
Plus $30-$50 in personal funds for road food (6 meals) in transit recommended.
This low cost is possible because of fundraising the group will do in preparing for the trip. Building materials and other costs are associated with the trip.
Payment Schedule:
$75.00 due Thursday, Ocober 23, 2008
$75.00 balance due Thursday, January 15, 2009

Students from Heidelberg University, the Unversity of Findlay, church folks from Northwest Ohio
Food:
Prepared daily by Jack and Diane. If you have dietary restrictions, please make sure that we are aware.

Saturday, February 28, Depart at 5:00 a.m. from Heidelberg (Krammes parking lot)
Sunday, March 1
Morning: Church Worship
Afternoon: French Quarter
Note: Alternative means that people will not be drinking in excess of legal limit for driving (for those who are of legal drinking age)
Monday, March 2-Thursday, March 5
Morning-Evening: Work
Evening Meeting-Servce Learning Component
Friday, March 6
Travel, lodging at Hotel in Transit
Saturday, March 7
Return to Heidelberg by 5:00 P.M. (Krammes)
