Becoming Part of IFC

Becoming a member of IFC is something that any member of the 4 men's fraternities can do.  Elections are held at the end of each year to determine the members for the following year.  In order to be considered, a candidate must slate for a position.  Slating is a process of writing a letter that will be read and reviewed by the executive board.  At this point they will choose the most qualified candidates and set up an interview with each of them.  From this, they will then vote on a candidate.

If you are interested in slating for a position in the future, we highly encourage you to come to any of our meetings, which are held at 8 P.M. in Campus Center 220 every Monday.

The following is a better description of the process given to the Presidents of the 4 fraternities:

Join IFC!

Letters are taken from April 14-April 21
See the following guidelines:

The By-Laws of the Inter-Fraternity Council

Article I. Elections
Section A. Slating Letters

1. All slating letters for executive positions are due to the president two weeks prior to elections.

2. All slating letters for standing committee chair positions are due to the president two weeks prior to elections.

3. Slating letters should be typed and include: Name, Group, the position you are interested in, why you are interested, and what qualifications and/or experiences they bring to this position.

4. The letters shall be read on the specified meeting of elections in front of the general IFC body.

Section B. Voting

1. After all the candidates have read their slating letter, there will be general discussion on the candidates, monitored by the President.

2. Each fraternity shall have two equal votes on each position.

3. In the result of a tie, the vote would go to the Executive Board.

Remember, the more people who slate the more positions that can be filled!  It would be great to see two people in each chair position!
