Computer Recommendations for the 2009-10 Academic Year
For maximum performance and flexibility, we recommend that students who will live in college-owned housing come to campus equipped with a Windows-based desktop or laptop computer. Apple systems can be used on the University network for email and web browsing. However, it is possible that some customized functionality may not be available to Apple users. Windows 95, Windows 98, and Windows ME are not supported on the University network. Early releases of future operating systems (Windows 7, Snow Leopard) may not work on the University network.
The University provides technical support for both software and hardware problems that students may incur. University technicians are trained on and equipped to work on Windows based IBM compatible systems. Apple users may find that service will need to be obtained from an authorized Apple Repair Center.
The following specifications are our suggestions for common systems system that should function on the campus network. Select from the following to see more detailed information on each:
- Windows Vista Systems
- Windows XP Systems
- Apple MacOS Systems
- Windows 7 not yet supported.
- MacOS 10.6 (Snow Leopard) not yet supported.
