Biochemistry and Mathematics Major
I chose Heidelberg because it was a nice school close to home that offered majors I was interested in.
I majored in Biochemistry and Mathematics because I've always been fascinated by the way chemicals interact to create everything we know and how numbers can help explain and predict.
A major challenge I encountered while at Heidelberg was my work-life balance and I handled it by taking some time to get my priorities in order.
Above all, Heidelberg prepared me to successfully navigate graduate school and present myself to future employers.
Outside of the classroom, I was involved in a year-long internship that helped me get a better handle on what I want to do in the future.
My favorite extra-curricular activity was traveling with the Chemistry Club because these opportunities were always really fun and incredibly informative.
One faculty or staff mentor or advisor who impacted my ‘Berg experience is Dr. Nate Beres because he provided a lot of information and help when it came to applying and preparing for graduate school, and continues to answer questions I have about what I could experience once I'm there.
My advice to new freshman me would be to take some time to figure out how you best learn, so you can be more successful in your classes and make more time for activities you enjoy without compromising your grades.
My favorite Heidelberg memory is the trip with Chem Club to the ACS conference in Indianapolis.
My plans after graduation are to go to graduate school at Stanford University to study Physical Chemistry.
