About

Dr. Stacey Pistorova is the Director and Chair of Heidelberg's School of Education and Associate Professor of Elementary Education. Dr. Pistorova came to Heidelberg with varied experiences in education that include teaching English conversation in the Czech Republic, being a teaching artist, serving an early childhood intervention team, and working as an early literacy specialist. Dr. Pistorova brings her passion for transforming educational learning spaces into places of joy, curiosity, critical thinking, and deep learning. Her research interests, conference presentations and articles focus on play, the role of the arts and creativity to learning, transforming teacher education for the 21st century, rethinking time in the early childhood classroom, and boredom. Dr. Pistorova is director of G.A.P., Heidelberg's Genius After School Program that serves local K-5 students and hires education students to work as tutors.

Research Interests

I am interested in supporting pedagogical approaches to education that support and celebrate childhood as a unique stage of development. I explore this in my research by focusing on play and the need to rethink how we use time in the classroom.
