Congratulations to the Class of 2020! We are preparing for an in-person ceremony on Saturday, August 29 at 11:00 AM in Seiberling Gymnasium. A baccalaureate service will precede the ceremony, beginning at 9:00 AM.
We are using thorough infection control procedures in order to serve you. In an effort to protect our students and employees along with others, if you are exhibiting any symptoms of COVID-19 (cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fever, chills, muscle pain, sore throat, loss of taste or smell), we ask that you stay home. We also ask that you take your temperature prior to arrival to campus and if your temperature is above 100.4, we ask that you stay home. Face coverings are required for everyone in attendance. Thank you for helping keep Heidelberg safe and healthy!
9:00 AM Baccalaureate
Baccalaureate is a worship service for graduates, families, and friends with open seating, physical distancing requested. This interfaith worship service will include readings from religious texts, prayers, special music, and a sermon. The heritage between the United Church of Christ and Heidelberg University is also celebrated in this gathering. Students from Religious Life will lead the service. The speaker is the Rev. Mark Frey, Class of 1973 .
Baccalaureate Attire: No academic regalia for graduates unless part of the Platform Party.
10:15 AM Student Line-up
Master’s degree graduates will line up in front of the Bryenton Center for Honors; Bachelor’s degree graduates will line up on the first floor of University Hall, and Faculty members will line up in front of Pfleiderer Hall. In case of inclement weather, the line-up for students will be held in the Saurwein Health & Wellness Center.
11:00 AM Commencement Ceremony for Graduates and Undergraduates
Special seating ticket holders will be admitted at 10:15 AM. Doors will open for general admission at 10:30 AM. Special seating will be held until 10:45 AM.
The cap/gown/hood that students signed up for during the school year through the bookstore or grad fair were cancelled when the May Commencement was cancelled. Students were issued a refund to their student account for the cost of the cap/gown/hood..
Students participating in the August Commencement will need to order a cap, gown, & hood from the Herff Jones website by Monday, July 27. You will receive your order in 2-3 weeks and it will be delivered to your home address.

Hood: Pick your degree. The hood shown on the website is a stock photo. You will receive an official Heidelberg hood with the correct color of your degree.
Souvenir Tassel: If you purchase the gown package it comes with a dated tassel. The souvenir tassel is offered for students who are not participating in commencement.
Attire is cap, gown and hood. Academic gowns are intended to be worn full length and should not be shortened by hemming, basting, etc. Approved medals and cords may be worn.

DIPLOMA FRAMES, ANNOUNCEMENTS, CLASS RINGS
Diploma frames are available for sale in the Bookstore. Additionally, diploma frames, class rings and announcements can be ordered from the Herff Jones website. Visit https://collegegrad.herffjones to order online.
Parking is available in Lots B, C, E, F, G, J and the National Machinery Parking Lots (see campus map). Insert link for campus map. next to Greenfield Street and Rebecca Street will be closed from 10:15 AM to 11:00 AM for the academic procession. Guests with health concerns or in a wheelchair should arrive before 10:15 AM for the Seiberling Gymnasium to be available for drop off.
As a security precaution, the following items are prohibited: alcoholic beverages, coolers, backpacks, large handbags, metal folding seat cushions, seats that clamp to bleachers, noise making devices, mace or similar substances, signs, sticks, poles, and weapons of any kind. Guests are subject to visual inspection of person, bags, and clothing capable of concealing prohibited items.
SPECIAL SEATING REQUESTS
Special seating at Commencement for those with health concerns:
If there is a family member, because of health reasons (this includes the use of a wheelchair or scooter) who cannot sit in the bleachers of Seiberling Gymnasium, graduates are to notify Ms. Barb Gabel with the individual’s name by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. There will be a seat reserved for this person and one escort in the special seating section. It is the responsibility of the graduate to make this reservation by July 27th.
Special seating tickets will be admitted to Seiberling Gymnasium at 10:15 AM. The special seating area will be held until 10:45 AM. At that time seats will be released for general seating. Doors will open for general seating at 10:30 AM.
Each candidate participating in the Commencement ceremony will receive up to 2 tickets. Commencement tickets will be mailed by August 10th.
