MLK Day ON! A Day of Service

The MLK Day of Service for students and employees will consist of interactive and training sessions in the morning with community service opportunities in the afternoon. The current schedule is listed below with more information to come:

9-10 a.m. 

  • Welcome & Keynote with short video of MLK speech and explanation of day. Seiberling Gymnasium

10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. 

  • Rotating Sessions -- Various sessions are offered throughout the morning so pick ones that are of interest.

10-10:30 a.m.

  • Panel Discussion -- MLK Speech and Discussion. Adams 104
  • Diversity, Equity & Inclusivity Jeopardy. This session will be in Jeopardy style as we go over terms, ideas and information related to diversity. Adams 204

10-11 a.m.

  • Safe Zone Training -- Training on making offices, Heidelberg and the campus a safe space. Adams 201

10-11:30 a.m.

  • Green Dot Training (not for students) -- training on Green Dot and how you can help. Herbster Chapel

10 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

  • Relaxation Space – If you need to stop and reflect or take a break during one of the time blocks, Campus Center 120 will be the place to take a break.

10:40-11:10 a.m.

  • Monologue of Gettysburg Address -- theatre students will be performing a monologue of the Gettysburg Address. Gundlach Theatre
  • "I have a Dream" Relay - Presenting the speech in a relay format. Adams 102
  • Be a Workplace Ally TED Talk and Discussion - We will watch the TED talk and discuss key points. Adams 101

11 a.m.-noon

  • Safe Zone Training – Training on making offices, Heidelberg and the campus a safe space. Adams 201

11:20-11:50 a.m.

  • Panel Discussion- of MLK Speech. Adams 104

12-12:30 p.m.

  • Lunch in Hoernemann (Cost will be covered by event)

1:30-4 p.m.

On Campus:

  • Writing Letters to Soldiers/Veterans - Owen Center

  • Professional Dress Closet Planning (Collection of professional dress items: blouses, ties, dress pants, socks, shoes) - UHall 204

  • Hygiene Closet Planning (Collection of hygiene products: shampoo, hand sanitizer, deodorant, etc.) - CC 125

  • Campus Clean Up - Location TBD

  • Food Drive - Location TBD

  • Writing letters/cards to nursing home residents - CC120

Off Campus:

  • Elmwood (Visit with residents, play games, one on one interactions)

  • Friedman Village (Paint residents nails, do room visits)

  • The Hub (Helping out)

  • United Way (Painting)

  • Ritz Theatre (Cleaning)

  • Good Shepherd Home (Play games with residents)

  • Tiffin Church of the Nazarene (Cleaning/Painting)

  • Stein Hospice (Office work/cleaning)

  • Seneca County Job & Family Services (hanging flyers at area business locations)

  • Allen Eiry (Clean & Organize Library/buses)

  • Franciscan Earth & Literacy Center (Deep cleaning of classroom)

7:30-9:30pm

  • "The Exonerated" Play reading. Gundlach Theatre
