A different kind of happy hour: Young alumni connect

They may be “zoomed out,” but a highly engaged group of alumni, current students and faculty took time to gather Thursday night in a Young Alumni Zoom Happy Hour, hosted by the Office of Alumni Engagement.

The Zoom gathering was the first in a series featuring different ‘Berg academic departments; this one highlighted faculty from communication and political science.

When he isn't training, there is no place Heidelberg University men's track and field standout Dan Stoll would rather be than his beloved Milan.  Not Milan, Italy -- the fashion capital of the world, mind you.  

Milan, Ohio.  Pronounced MY-lin.  In nearby Erie County.  

It's there -- not far from the birthplace of famed inventor Thomas Edison -- that another local legend can be found.

Communication can be a powerful thing, on many different levels. That was one of the takeaways from a pair of internships senior psychology and accounting major David Haines completed this summer through The Fund for American Studies and the The Reagan Institute, as well as the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators.

But perhaps the biggest joy was an op-ed piece David had published as a guest columnist in The Columbus Dispatch, advocating for full health care for every American especially during this time of pandemic-related job loss.

Heidelberg University is again ranked among the top colleges and universities in two categories in U.S. News & World Report’s annual national survey. In the rankings released Monday, Heidelberg is listed No. 21 in the top tier among best regional colleges in the Midwest and No. 8 on the list of “best value” schools regionally. Placement on the “best value” list confirms that Heidelberg provides a high-quality education at an affordable price. The list considers the percentage of need-based financial aid and the average cost after financial aid is awarded.

Heidelberg University has been awarded a second $300,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Justice that will continue to address the issues of sexual assault, dating / domestic violence and stalking on campus. The grant authors are project coordinator Ronee Rice and Dr. Marjorie Shavers, director of Heidelberg’s Master of Arts in Counseling (MAC) Program.
