“Oh my gosh, what day is it?” It’s Thursday, August 3 as Scott Carpenter, ’17, found out. “It’s only been two days. I’ve done so much,” he laughed. Life comes at you fast when you’re pursuing your dream.
Two days prior, Carpenter accepted the position of TV sports anchor at WLTZ in Columbus, Georgia. Scott will be seen Monday through Saturday nights on the NBC affiliate at 6, 10 and 11 p.m. doing what he loves most: talking sports.

When General Manager Jeff Smock arrived on campus to oversee the transition to Heidelberg’s new food service partner Parkhurst Dining, he didn’t realize what a busy and challenging summer it would be. As the school year approaches, Jeff is enthusiastic about unveiling a new era in dining on campus.
Here, Jeff gets into detail about the transition and what students can expect from Parkhurst at Hoernemann, Fireside Café and Pub and Rock Creek Express when they return.

Campus may seem like a quiet place each summer but it hosts various camps from early June until late July each year. There’s the Especially For Youth Mormon Camp, which brings in over 400 students; the Ohio Teen Institute in its fifth year on campus, and several more along with the countless youth football, basketball and soccer camps. Then there’s Showchoir Camps of America.

It’s just past 4 p.m. on a Thursday. Aust the Boss Performance isn’t technically open but owner Austin Lepole, ‘17, is there anyway.
One of his customers arrives to pick up his repaired jet ski. “We’ll see you again soon,” Austin said with a wide smile as he shook his hand. Although open hours are 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Austin works largely by appointments.

New experiences with different cultures have the potential to change a person’s perspective. Just ask Josh Hilgenberg and Payge Smith.
Josh and Payge, both seniors this fall, were among a group of 17 ‘Berg students who traveled to the Texas-Mexico border June 17-24 for a weeklong service trip in a Mexican immigrant community. Service Learning on the U.S./Mexico Border allowed students to immerse themselves in a different culture.
