Big grant continues awareness, prevention programs around sexual violence

Heidelberg University has been awarded a second $300,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Justice that will continue to address the issues of sexual assault, dating / domestic violence and stalking on campus. The grant authors are project coordinator Ronee Rice and Dr. Marjorie Shavers, director of Heidelberg’s Master of Arts in Counseling (MAC) Program.

Being a member of a student organization – or multiple organizations, as is the case for many ‘Berg students – provides a place to gain new experiences, learn new skills and meet new people.

“It adds so much to the ‘Berg experience, giving us something to look forward to outside of the classroom and another reason to return back to campus,” says junior Noah Kennard.

Noah is actively involved in Greek Life, Student Senate, Chem Club, BEC, men’s tennis and as an Orientation leader in the summer.

Although it’s one of Heidelberg’s many long-standing traditions, this fall’s Opening Convocation – the official beginning of the 2020-21 academic year – was like no other in history.

Like so many other events during the pandemic, Convocation shifted to virtual, presented to incoming students during their AIM Hei classes this morning and simultaneously during “watch parties” in Wickham Great Hall and Herbster Chapel.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Heidelberg’s National Center for Water Quality Research will play a key role in the H2Ohio Initiative, a comprehensive, data-driven approach to improving Ohio’s water quality.

H2Ohio has enlisted the Lake Erie and Aquatic Research Network (LEARN) to partner with ODNR on the H2Ohio Initiative’s wetland monitoring plan. The group will assess the effectiveness and future role of implemented and planned wetland restoration projects under the H2Ohio Initiative.

'Berg theatre actors explore struggles of growing up

Nothing is conventional during the pandemic, but the shows must go on for Heidelberg University Theatre.

COVID-19 has presented extraordinary challenges for Heidelberg’s growing theatre program, primarily, “How do we produce theatre while also keeping everyone safe,” noted Theatre Director Stephen Svoboda. Despite the challenges, ‘Berg Theatre is forging ahead with an exciting 2020-21 season, albeit with a number of safety precautions in place. This year’s season will feature five productions and “9 to 5,” a bonus holdover from last spring.
