Young alum to help kick off academic year

New students will get to hear an inspiring message from distinguished young alum and attorney Rebecca (Denton) Shope, ’04, when she delivers the keynote address during Opening Convocation on Thursday, Aug. 23. Convocation will be the official kick-off to the 2018-19 academic year.

Congrats, Class of 2018 – Heidelberg’s newest alumni

As President Rob Huntington pointed out, Sunday’s Commencement was “just a bit more cozy” inside Seiberling Gymnasium, but the celebratory spirit was just as strong as Heidelberg welcomed 295 graduates into the alumni family.

“Even though we were disappointed to be back inside Seiberling Gym due to the adverse weather, I thought it was a wonderful ceremony with a very warm spirit inside. And dry!” President Rob Huntington said.

Tradition: Class of 2018 banner unveiled

With less than 48 hours until their big day, the congratulations and well wishes have begun to flow for the soon-to-be graduates in the Class of 2018, who received their official marching orders this morning.

As part of the long-standing commencement rehearsal tradition, seniors Katie Mullins and Abbey McKee presented the class’s banner to President Rob Huntington.

SRC keynote: Be the solution

Dr. Jeremi Suri’s message to students Thursday was part history lesson, part call to action.

Suri, who traveled to Heidelberg from the University of Texas at Austin, where he is a history professor and global affairs scholar, gave the Minds@Work keynote Thursday. Using his most recent book, The Impossible Presidency, as the framework for his talk, Suri argues that the successful presidents of the past created unrealistic expectations for every president since JFK. And, the resulting problems for American politics are huge.

Campus plans "It's On Us" events

It’s On Us, a week of events to raise awareness and prevent sexual violence on college campuses, is scheduled for the week of April 23.

Launched a year ago, the week offers events for students, staff and faculty – everything from a talk by a sex therapist, a member of the College Football Hall of Fame, artistic expressions, bystander training and the popular “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” with a twist!

The Stoner Health Center, Counseling & Disabilities Center, in conjunction with the It’s On Us Committee, is coordinating the series this year.
